The A4988 stepper motor driver is a DMOS microstepping driver with converter and overcurrent protection that operates bipolar stepper motors in full, half, quarter, 1/8 and 1/16 step modes for output drive performance Up to 35 V and ±2, the A4988 includes a fixed off-time current regulator that operates in slow or mixed-fade mode. The converter is the key to the ease of implementation of the A4988. Simply input a pulse into the “step” input to drive the motor to generate a microstep. No phase sequence table, high frequency control line or complex interface programming is required. The A4988 interface is ideal for applications where complex microprocessors are not available or overloaded.
The A4988 features as the following:
1. It is suitable for driving stepper motors of 8V~35V 2A or less
2, only simple step and direction control interface
3, five different stepping modes: full, half, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16
4. The adjustable potentiometer can adjust the maximum current output to obtain a higher step rate
5. Automatic current decay mode detection/selection
6, overheat shutdown circuit, undervoltage lockout, cross current protection
7, ground short circuit protection and load short circuit protection
